76004 - Spider-Man: Spider-Cycle Chase - Venom!!!

Got another great Spider-Man set. This one is the Spider-Cycle Chase and as you can see you not only get Spider-Man, but Nick Fury and of course Venom. There are a couple really great follow ups to Lego's first Ultimate Spider-Man set 6873 - Doc Ock Ambush, you can see my set review here.  The Spider-Man mini is exactly the same in all the sets. I've also got a review of the Daily Bugle set coming up too.
This set features a cool SHIELD flying truck and the flying spider cycle.  Of course Spider-Man may be the main draw and focus of the set, but it's really the supporting cast of mini's that make these sets so great. I mean come on Venom!! Let's have a look at the pieces.

I really do like the design of the cycle and truck.

The back of the truck raises up and the wheels fold down.
The back of the truck also has a missile launcher.

Alright on to the best part the Mini's!
Like I said Spider-Man is the same in all the Ultimate Spider-Man sets.  It would be nice to get a black suited Spider-Man eventually.

I'm not a comic purest. At least not anymore. So it doesn't bother me in the least that they reimagined Nick Fury as black and cast Sam Jackson in the movies.  Sam did a great job making Fury the bad ass he's suppose to be.

But the big draw of this set is the villain. And I really wanted the Venom minifigure.

He also comes with these weird tendril things.

Here's a good look of the back with out the tendril back pack.

Over all a great little set and not bad for a $20 bill.

Lego Minifigures Series 12 - Third Look

If your a fan of Lego and follow any other Lego blogs or fan sites you've more than likely already seen this.

Another nice assortment of Mini's all based on the upcoming Lego movie due out in March.  These are suppose to hit shelves some time in January.  Of course you've also probably heard that Series 13 will be Simpson themed.  So I look forward to seeing how those come out.

Here is the list in the set.
  • William Shakespeare
  • Gail the Construction Worker
  • Panda Guy
  • Abraham Lincoln
  • Taco Tuesday Guy
  • Larry the Barista
  • President Business
  • Calamity Drone
  • Marsha Queen of the Mermaids
  • Wild West Wyldstyle
  • Scribbe-Face Bad Cop
  • Velma Staplebot
  • Hard Hat Emmet
  • “Where are my Pants?” Guy
  • Mrs. Scratchen-Post
  • Wiley Fusebot
I'll be a little honest, while the variety is great as always I'm disappointed that Lego didn't add a couple DC characters to the mix since they are prominently in the movie trailers and I'm guessing heavily seen in the movies.  Plus Warner Brothers is producing the movie and DC Comics is owned by Warner Brothers and Lego has the DC Heroes license.  Of course it's possible that their license forbids them from doing something like this, but I've always thought with the character base of both DC and Marvel, Lego could easily put out a minifigure set of exclusive characters of either universe and it would sell well.  Hell even if they're just slight variations of existing figures they'd do well.

30252 - Legends of Chima - Crug's Swamp Jet polybag

There are a few themes in Lego I'm just not that into. Legends of Chima is one of those, and Ninjago is the other.  And I don't know why I'm so adverse to Chima either. I mean the builds look cool and the minis look cool. I think I'm just to overhelmed with the Marvel, DC, and Star Wars themes to commit to another line, but I'll take a cheap polybag to test the waters any day.  Here we have Crug's Swamp Jet.
The basic premise is that different animal tribes are at war over Chi energy.  Anyways Crug is part of the crocodile tribe.

Here's Crug without his helmet

I suppose if I found a couple sets cheap enough I'd go for it and if I was to find another polybag with a different tribe member I'd probably snag that as well.

Minifigure Spotlight Series 11 - Evil Mech

I happily finally found the last mini I needed to complete my Series 11 set. No it wasn't this guy.  The Evil Mech is pretty easy to find in the package. The chest/shoulder piece is hard to miss, as well as, the helmet and gun.  Overall a very well done mini.

Here's a loot under the hood and with the chest piece off to see the body detail.

Kre-O Transformers Perview Series blind packs.

Kre-O is one of those building sets that I have a hard time getting into. I had no desire to pick up any of the Battleship themed sets and the bigger Transformer sets are just so pricey. So I was walking aroudn TRU and found a couple left over Preview Series Micro-Changer blind packs I figured I'd try them out. Especially since I don't have any Kreons in my mini collection.  I was also pleased to see that they are putting out blind packs to go with there new GI Joe and Star Trek sets.  Sadly I got the same figure from both packs so if anyone wants to trade for the other Crankstart let me know. I've opened the pack but not the sealed parts bag.

So lets talk about what I like and dislike about these guys.

I like that each figure comes with it's own insert.  And the Robot version is pretty cool.

Here's a look at Crankstart without his chest piece on to show the detail on the body.

What I don't like is that each version doesn't use all the pieces so the when the figure is in robot mode there are extra pieces lying around waiting to get lost. I also don't like how cheap the vehicle mode is. It's almost like it's an afterthought and not really well thought out.  It's clunky and really not all the esthetically pleasing.

Over all it's a great little figure that will more than likely stay in robot mode.
